Oil on Canvas
Susan McKenna List began seriously studying painting and pastel portrait in the early 80's but it was her 1989 move to the San Francisco Bay Area that led her to mentor Pam Glover and a career as an avid plein air painter. With Glover's encouragement invitations to show, painting sales, solo and group shows followed.
List was honored with solo shows at Epperson Gallery, Lindsay Dirkx Brown Gallery and others and to be a featured artist at Valentina Gallery in Carmel-by-the-Sea. She has shown her work in galleries in Manhattan, Scottsdale, Carmel, the Bay Area, Morristown, NJ, south Florida and has work in collections in the US, South America and abroad.
List also operated a studio/gallery in Lafayette, Ca for six years were she became known for commissioned work of clients' homes, children and vacation adventures. At the studio she also hosted fellow artists, taught classes and enjoyed many good conversations with drop-in visitors and patrons. Opportunities in New York City led to a bicoastal life and eventually a return to the East Coast.
List currently lives in Boca Raton, Fla, where she paints with Plein Air Palm Beach and in her studio at The Heart of Delray Gallery. She also works in New York's Hell's Kitchen where she just concluded her October solo show 'PaintUs InterruptUs' with her poet friend Gary Carter who wrote poems to selected works. In the summer she often works at a lakeside cabin in Stockholm, NJ. In that area she shows with Skyland Gallery, Wantage and the Warwick Art League, New York. National memberships include the Oil Painters of America and the Impressionist Society and List remains active with local plein air group wherever she happens to be.
