Road Through the Winter Forest by Anna Maćkowiak, Oil on Canvas

Oil on Canvas
Hailing from the Polish mountains that rise above the Czech border, Anna Maćkowiak (b. 1980) has drawn inspiration from this rugged environment and the cities she was drawn to, to create vibrant works without compromise.
First as a writer whose intuition found full voice in painting, her canvasses spring to life with swirling, raw emotions and deep, searching color that chart a journey of bracing discovery.
In another century, Abstract expressionism shifted the eyes of the art world from Paris to New York. These works, familiar to that movement but independent of it, are rooted in the old continent while being personal and utterly contemporary.
“When in front of my canvases I wish my viewers experience the intimacy of private moments, shared or alone.
Whether in the mountains, facing an ocean or amidst the ‘madding crowd’, we discover hidden parts of ourselves where moments of freedom exist.
The tension between these places and within ourselves, that I describe as pulsating loneliness, informs my work.
I see you! Stay still and feel. Nobody will know. Let us take this time together.
Let the inner dialogue of our secret lives, layered in dramatic style in oil, sooth and provoke in equal measure”
