Amina Lei is a self-taught painter, muralist and illustrator from Oakland, California. Amina’s childhood represented the complexity and beauty of growing up in the diverse culture of the Bay Area. It was the revolutionary spirit of Oakland, Ca that shaped Amina’s social justice and feminist thinking.
Lei’s paintings are created with a journey in mind that expresses both the strength and vulnerability of a healing woman. The healing woman also represents a new redefined feminine spirit making her way through a dark time of chaos and transformation. She’s most known for her paintings of strong women that also possesses a soft beauty of vulnerability. Using bold dark colors as a backdrop to soft flowing shapes, Amina illustrates how softness can be a strength with watercolor, acrylic and oil painting.
In addition to fine art and murals, Amina creates illustrations for cosmetic companies and retail stores that are used for beauty events. Her clients include, Lancome, Dior, Barneys Beverly Hills, By Terry and Aqua Di Parma. She has also exhibited in solo and group shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
