Bio:

Kevin Richardson is a photographer based in New York City and the creator of Dance As Art: The New York Photography Project. His passion for taking photographs of dancers on location is more than evident in his images that both inspire and delight and what started as "a bit of a hobby" has been seen by hundreds of thousands around the world. With no formal training in photography whatsoever, in the summer of 2014 he took his gear out to Coney Island for what would be his first location shoot and has done a location photo shoot with dancers in his Dance As Art Project almost every week since then, creating an impressive body of work that has been exhibited in New York City in solo shows and in private collections around the world.

A former natural bodybuilder who "spent most of his time on the other end of the camera," Kevin’s intimate knowledge of the human form shines through in his work and he has worked as a contributing photographer for several bodybuilding and fitness magazines. Kevin lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Stephanie Corne and his blended family of five truly wonderful children. Official website: www.danceasart.com

Artist Statement:

Kevin’s Dance As Art- The New York Photography Project is a public celebration of the talented dancers of New York City. Part street show, part fine art, it's also a call to remember and support the arts and artists of New York City. With Dance As Art Kevin’s mission is three fold. Firstly, it is a celebration of the beauty of dance. A tribute to the amazingly talented dancers of our City. Secondly, it is a reminder of the importance of art as part of what makes New York the city that we know and love. The dancers stand as representatives of all artists, the artists who are the creative soul of our City and without them there is an emptiness that no new incoming population can fill. Finally, it is a street show. Every photo shoot brings the art of dance back to the people, drawing crowds, sometimes in the hundreds, of spectators who have a chance to see our artists dancing in the streets.
