ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Daniel Patricio Gomez

I was born in Monterrey, Mexico, but moved to Austin, Texas at the age of 10. I started painting in 2018 by, first, painting shoes to develop my design brand, What Excites You. As I learned from different types of artists, like Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning, Mark Rothko, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, I was inspired to start painting canvases in 2019; now, I create abstract and surreal paintings.

My abstract paintings are meant for the viewer to exercise their perspective by focusing their attention on specific brush  strokes in comparison to the whole painting. The initial inspiration for my abstract paintings comes from our individual subconscious ability to perceive the arbitrariness of reality. Every time During the process of making paintings, I try to let my subconscious guide my movements and the forms I create; the only control I have over the painting is the colors used. I try to use my abstract style in as many ways as possible by manipulating the colors, combining surrealist elements, or to paint it on different kinds of objects.
