The Slow Rotting of My Heart in a Land of Chaos and Confusion by Christopher Saab, Oil Pastels on Wood Panel
30 x 40
Oil Pastels on Birch Wood Panel
The heart is one of the most vital organs in the human body and is at the center of our core. This piece is a reflection of a very personal and difficult time in my life, before I started on my path as a visual artist. The heart that is illustrated in the center of the canvas with oil pastels, represents my passion for art and my obsessive drive to create. The piece evokes pain and confusion, given the chaotic maze-like background that seems to almost suffocate the heart. The stylized organ is being consumed by harsh lines and negative imagery whilst also portraying this beauty within madness. By killing the past that chained me, I finally have accepted the artist within as shown through this biographical piece. Only by encouraging and opening up to a positive perspective on life, can the blooming of the mind, heart and soul truly align to become who we were always destined to be.
