About the Artist: Jacqui Miller strives to create art that bears witness to racial equality and the beauty of ethnicities, in opposition to the rising tide of nationalism. Jacqui’s subjects are inspired by diverse cultures and current events. Her style is neo-pop; painted in acrylics on canvas using richly saturated colors, outlined with bold black lines, and often accented with gold paint. What makes her work standout is her trademark depiction of the portrait being split straight down the middle. One half is painted to represent Caucasians, the other half is painted to represent people of color. It’s this uncomplicated aesthetic that quite clearly, and effectively, illustrates the equality of races, that one half is not superior to the other. “My family is very diverse, we love and respect each other’s differences, and see each other as equals. There’s no posturing for the seat at the head of the table, and we’re all willing to take the garbage out. If we can do it, everyone can do it!”

Bio: Jacqui Miller was born and raised in London by her Jamaican parents who encouraged her creativity. After high school she left the UK to study fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. She initially worked as an assistant designer for a leisure wear designer in Manhattan before moving to Maryland to become a children's wear patternmaker. She eventually developed bespoke tailoring skills and opened a custom tailoring shop in Bethesda, MD. Jacqui has had a few major health setbacks to overcome; in 2012 she had a kidney transplant and in 2016 she had ovarian cancer. In 2018 her husband encouraged her to take a break from work in order to relax and focus only on what made her happy. She chose to paint and has never looked back!

Artistic Influences: Modigliani, Picasso, and Lichenstein.
