Never-Before-Seen Pat Lipsky Stain Paintings at GP Contemporary Gallery

Eleven never-before-seen examples of Pat Lipsky’s early work—pictures acclaimed in the New York Times, Arts, and collected by the Hirshhorn and Whitney Museums, among others—are proudly presented by GP Contemporary Gallery in the new exhibition Stain Paintings 1968—1975. The exhibition will be accompanied by a 30 page catalog with an essay by the celebrated writer and art critic, Carter Ratcliff. Lolita's PTSD explores how the psyche, the body, and culture shape each other. Drawing on the writings of Medieval female saints, self-help books, and feminist texts, Erin Hinz creates images of self-preservation and the longing for perfection. Set in domestic settings such as the bedroom or bathroom, her figures attempt to reconstruct themselves, but are ultimately incomplete, defective results, comprised of miscellaneous body parts.
