Arturo Javier Reyes Medina is a Spanish artist of Granada (Andalucia) who currently lives and works in Biel / Bienne (Switzerland). Plastic multi-disciplinary artist working simultaneously figuration and abstracion and expressed in different media: painting, sculpture, photography, digital imaging and has also started in video art. After a brief stint in law school and the School of Design and Fashion Technology (Granada) revealed his passion for drawing and joined the Faculty of Fine Arts. Bachelor of Fine Arts in the specialty of plastic arts: painting branch by the University of Granada complemented his formation in the Netherlands being the first scholar Erasmus Hogeschool Rotterdam Omstreken. Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands 1995) and the Faculty of Arts: Academie voor Beeldemde Vorming. Catholic University of Tilburg (The Netherlands 1997). This I greatly influenced in his conception of art; conceptulizaciòn emphasis on the northern wine country to add to the extensive technical training received academic roots in Granada. He began his doctoral studies at the University of Granada by completing the teaching period, but did not complete his doctoral thesis shocked by the death of his supervisor and Dean of this faculty. He devoted himself to teaching as a professor of drawing in various secondary schools in Andalucia until in 2009 left teaching to devote himself exclusively to his artistic work. He had a brief experience as gallerist still very young and early forays into art fairs and galleries that went somewhat disappointed to find that the world of art to his utopian idealistic and youthful vision did not match. This led him to lose interest in the market and focus on creating no more. His maverick personality has been reflected in the continuous experimetacion, in search of its own lenguje, using all kinds of materials and techniques in correlation to their own existential search. This process has led to the abandonment of bidemensionalidad the canvas in his reliefs, to mix painting and collage as well as the digital image with paint. Also in this work lately correlation with light, backlit digital works well in methacrylates as working with fluorescent colors; so that the uniqueness of the work is lost because the work changes as natural light or white light that strikes it. Your search has its vital reflection in formal suggestibility. His last solo exhibition (Berlin 2014) shows these concerns and simultaneous lines of research in the future want to go into these aspects as well as discovering new plastic and visual expression. He continues his creative work in these areas of research activity that combines with an extensive presence in social networks concerned by the rapid feedback as representing democratization of the artistic act. Central themes in his work are the human figure as a metaphor of the universe, such as color and light change the sense of form; both formally and conceptually as the contrast material can create
Picasso said "everyone tries to explain the art and I wonder why not try to explain the birdsong" . Arturo’s work comes from sub-consciousness and expresses what is impossible to be put into words. The paintings are grounded in human figure as a metaphor and in fascination how colour changes the sense of form. The inner tension of the heart is carved in two dimensionality of painting: the essence of the friction of the soul with the world and oneself. Lately Arturo is partially abandoning figuration and started to experiment with sculptures in wood reliefs and digital media. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project my methodology is consistent. Although there may not always be material similarities between the different projects they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work. Each project often consists of multiple works, often in a range of different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings. During research and production new areas of interest arise and lead to the next body of work.
